Furniture and Space Planning

Ever design a room, pick out the paint, buy new furniture and add accents, but yet to room just doesn’t feel complete? It may be that the flow of the room is off. Sometimes we can’t control the natural flow in our own places b/c we rent and cant remove walls, or bought a house where the architect didn’t put much thought into it! Typically when we refer to flow, we use the term “Triangle”. In most great kitchens, they are designed to give the cook enough room and easy access to all the important things: Fridge, Sink, and Stove. The triangle is a natural thing when designed properly and makes moving around the space easy and 1-2-3! The same rule applies in any other room.
The living room can also have the triangle effect if done correctly. Pick you focal point in the room (Biggest Wall, Picture Window or Fireplace) and go from there. Usually you will want to provide access around furniture, and allow for seating that offers different purposes; i.e reading/fireplace, entertainment/flat screen;
Play around with different furniture placement in your home and see what a difference it can make!
Tip: Don’t be afraid to turn a couch on an angle or center furniture in the middle of the room….you don’t always have to put the furniture against the wall! You will be surprised how much more room you actually have. Enjoy!
