Bedroom furniture is not cheap, let’s be real…but there are some really fun ways to add a unique touch to your bedroom furniture. One way is to go to a salvage yard and look for older doors. Yep, regular bedroom doors! You can really find some cool doors that are aged, that add a TON of character! My suggestion would be to measure your bed, to be sure the door isn’t too large. Also you will want to frame out the door so that it has a finished look. You can get wood cut to size just bring your measurements to a local Home Improvement store! You can stain/paint the trim to match the door/headboard! You can either attach the headboard to the frame, if you trim it out, or if you’d rather not, can attach it to the wall. It’s truly a unique thing to do, and will be one of a kind! Here are some tips!
1. When hanging the door on the wall, be sure you are drilling your nails into the studs of the wall. You can find studs easily by using a stud finder-found at any home improvement store. Be sure you by nails that are secure enough for the door, and ask your local Home improvement store exactly what will work best, based on the type of door you use, and it’s weight
2. If framing out the door with posts, you can easily attach the bed to the posts, as opposed to the wall, since the floor will help support the weight.
3. If you don’t want to frame the sides, you can also add decorative trim to the top as a finishing touch!
A simple trick like this can cost about $100, as opposed to $1000 for a new bed frame/headboard set!
